Fy mwriad ar gyfer y gwaith hwn oedd anrhydeddu’r ffawydden a dathlu’r amrywiaeth eang o fywyd yr oedd y goeden yn ei gynnal, drwy greu powlenni seremonïol gyda slip lludw pren y goeden. Ymwelais â’r boncyff a adawyd ar ôl ac fe’m synnwyd gan faint o fwsoglau, cen, ffyngau, rhedyn a phlanhigion bychain gwahanol oedd yn dal i dyfu arno. Gwneuthum luniadau o’r rhain ar gyfer monoprintio tu mewn i’r powlenni, a defnyddiais glai i gymryd argraffiadau o weadau’r rhisgl a’r mwsogl ar yr arwynebau allanol.

Gwneuthum slip lludw pren ar gyfer y powlenni o ddarnau gwastraff y ffawydden, a losgais a’u cymysgu â phorslen. Yna fe raddiais fanylion y lluniadau mwsogl yn rhydd i greu marciau mynegiannol yn y powlenni, a llosgais aur i mewn i arwyneb y gwydredd.

My intention for this work was to honour the beech tree and celebrate the wide variety of life it supported, by making ceremonial bowls with wood ash slip from the tree. I visited the stump that was left behind and was amazed by the amount of different mosses, lichens, fungi, ferns and tiny plants still growing on it. I made drawings of these for monoprinting inside the bowls, and used clay to take impressions of the textures of the bark and moss, for the outside surfaces.

I made wood ash slip for the bowls from offcuts of the beech, which I burnt and mixed with porcelain. I then loosely scaled up details of the moss drawings to create gestural marks in the bowls and fired gold into the surface of the glaze.
