Collection: John Hedley

Cafodd John Hedley ei fagu yn Swydd Gaer a chwblhaodd ei gwrs Sylfaen Celf yng Nghaer. Yna aeth ymlaen i astudio celf gain yn Ysgol Gelf Camberwell, Ysgol Gelf Byam Shaw ac Ysgol Ganolog y Celfyddydau yn Llundain. Dechreuodd John arddangos mewn orielau yn Llundain a’r taleithiau, ochr yn ochr â darlithio gwadd mewn ysgolion celf fel Camberwell, Bryste a Winchester. Bu ganddo nifer o arddangosfeydd unigol a deuol yn ogystal ag arddangosfeydd agored. Mae’r rhain yn cynnwys Arddangosfa Haf yr Academi Frenhinol, “The Spirit of London” yn y Royal Festival Hall, yn ogystal ag amryw o arddangosfeydd yn Orielau’r Mall a lleoliadau eraill.

Symudodd John i Ogledd Cymru ym 1985. Parhaodd i arddangos yn Llundain ac mewn rhannau eraill o’r DU am sawl blwyddyn. Yna dechreuodd ddarlithio ym Mhrifysgol Bangor a Choleg Llandrillo.

Cynhaliodd John ei arddangosfa unigol gyntaf yn Oriel Plas Glyn-y-Weddw ym 1993, a dilynwyd hi gan un arall yn 2000. Cafodd ei ethol yn aelod o Academi Frenhinol Cambrian yn 2015.

Ers 2010 mae wedi derbyn grantiau gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru ar gyfer prosiectau datblygu, ac mae wedi cynnal nifer o arddangosfeydd unigol a deuol yng Nghymru. Yn sgîl y prosiectau hyn mae wedi arddangos yn Oriel Sycharth ym Mhrifysgol Glyndŵr Wrecsam, Canolfan Ucheldre Caergybi, Gallery 6 Oriel Mostyn Llandudno, Academi Frenhinol Cambrian, Storiel, Canolfan Gelf Aberystwyth ac Oriel Môn Llangefni.
Yn ystod prosiect 2012 “Stress, Layering and Cracking” daeth John yn artist preswyl ar gyfer Geo Môn, ac arweiniodd i mewn i brosiect “Fingertips in Time” yn 2017.

John Hedley was raised in Cheshire and did his Art Foundation at Chester. He then went onto study fine art at the Camberwell School of Art, Byam Shaw School of Art and the Central School of Art in London. John then started exhibiting in galleries in London and the provinces alongside visiting lecturing in art schools such as Camberwell, Bristol and Winchester. He had a number of one-person and two-person shows as well as open shows. These include the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, The Spirit of London at the Royal Festival Hall as well as various exhibitions at the Mall Galleries and other venues.

John moved to North Wales in 1985. He continued to exhibit in London and other parts of the UK for several years. He then started lecturing at Bangor University and Coleg Llandrillo.

John had his first one-person exhibition at Oriel Plas Glyn-y-Weddw in 1993 followed by another in 2000. John was elected a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy in 2015.

Since 2010 he has received ACW grants for developmental projects and had a number of one and two person shows in Wales. During these projects he has exhibited at Oriel Sycharth at Glyndŵr University Wrexham, Ucheldre Centre Caergybi, Gallery 6 Oriel Mostyn Llandudno, Royal Cambrian Academy, Storiel, Aberystwyth Art Centre and Oriel Mon Llangefni.

In the 2012 project “Stress, Layering and Cracking” John became artist in residence for Geo Mon which continued into the “Fingertips in Time” project in 2017.
