Collection: Rosanne Barr

Nid y dirwedd ei hun ond atgof amdani wedyn yw’r cysyniad sydd wrth wraidd gwaith Rosanne. Mewn gair, ôl-fflach. Ei nod yw archwilio a dal naws, emosiwn a lliwiau'r lle sy'n cael ei hidlo trwy dywod treigl amser. Lleoedd dychmygol yw’r rhain, ei ‘thiroedd dihangfa’, ond yn seiliedig ar brofiad uniongyrchol o arfordir Gogledd Orllewin yr Alban ac Orkney; ardaloedd y mae hi wedi eu hadnabod ers ei phlentyndod ac mae'n dal i ymweld gyda ei theulu ifanc. Mae lliwiau codiad haul, machlud, stormydd ynghyd â siâp wedi'i symleiddio yn sail i'w harddull haniaethol nodedig.

Ganed Rosanne Barr ym 1981 ym mhentref Gartocharn ym mhen deheuol Loch Lomond. Yn 2003 graddiodd o Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee gydag Anrhydedd Dosbarth Cyntaf. Yn ddiweddarach y flwyddyn honno bu’n arddangos ei gwaith yn Llundain yn y Ganolfan Ddylunio Brydeinig ac yn Orielau The Mall lle dyfarnwyd Trwydded Rhagoriaeth iddi gan Gymdeithas y Crefftwyr Dylunio.

Ym mis Mawrth 2008 gwerthwyd pob tocyn ar gyfer ei sioe unigol fawr gyntaf ‘Lands of Home and Venture’ yn The Green Gallery: …… “tirweddau brwsh beiddgar, yn cymysgu’n ddeheuig o realaeth, argraffiadaeth, a llu o’r Colourists. Wedi’i hysbrydoli bob amser gan dirweddau’r Alban”. [Yr Herald 8.03.08]

Yn 2009 cafodd Rosanne ei dewis i fod ar restr fer Gwobr Jolomo Barclays TSB. Mae ei gwaith wedi’i ddewis ar gyfer Arddangosfeydd Blynyddol Sefydliad Brenhinol Celfyddydau Cain Glasgow a Sefydliad Celf Paisley.

Yn 2012 dewiswyd Rosanne gan banel yn UDA i fod yn Artist Rhyngwladol yng Ngŵyl Gelfyddydau Great Gulf. Roedd y cyfle hwn yn cynnwys rhoi darlithoedd a demos i ysgolion ac arddangos yn yr ŵyl.

Yn 2017 fe’i gwahoddwyd i deithio i Sardinia ar gyfer cyfnod preswyl, gan beintio ‘plein air’ ochr yn ochr ag 20 artist arall o bob rhan o Ewrop.

Mae Rosanne yn arddangos yn eang ledled y DU gyda phaentiadau mewn casgliadau preifat ledled y byd. Mae hi bellach yn byw ym Milngavie ac yn peintio’n llawn amser yn ei stiwdio gardd yn y porth i West Highland Way.

Not the landscape itself but memory of it afterwards is the concept at the heart of Rosanne's work.  In a word, flashback. She aims to explore and capture the mood, emotion, colours of the place filtered through the sands of lapsed time.  These are imagined places, her Lands of Escape, but based on direct experience of the North West seaboard of Scotland and of Orkney; areas that she has known since childhood and visits still with young family.  Heightened colours of sunrise, sunset and amid storm along with simplified shape are the basis of her distinctive abstract style.

Rosanne Barr was born in 1981 in the village of Gartocharn at the south end of Loch Lomond. In 2003 she graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee with First Class Honours. Later that year she exhibited in London at the British Design Centre and at The Mall Galleries where she was awarded a Licentiate of Distinction by the Society of Designer Craftsmen.

In March 2008 her first major solo show Lands of Home and Venture at The Green Gallery was a sell-out: …… “bold brushed landscapes, deftly mixing realism, impressionism, and a dash of the Colourists. Always inspired by Scotland’s landscapes”. [The Herald 8.03.08]

In 2009 Rosanne was shortlisted for the Barclays TSB Jolomo Award. Her work has been selected for the Annual Exhibitions of the Royal Glasgow Institute of The Fine Arts and Paisley Art Institute.

In 2012 Rosanne was selected by a panel in the USA to be the International Artist at the Great Gulf Arts Festival. This opportunity included giving lectures and demos to schools and exhibiting at the festival.

In 2017 she was invited to travelled to Sardinia for an Artist residency, painting ‘plein air’ alongside another 20 artists from across Europe.

Rosanne exhibits widely across the UK with paintings in private collections around the world. She now lives in Milngavie painting full time in her garden studio at the gateway to the West Highland Way.
