Treuliaf fy mywyd yn bennaf rhwng mynyddoedd Ardal y Llynnoedd a thraethau Llŷn lle mae’n bleser amsugno naws a harddwch natur. Rwyf wedi casglu ffynhonnell gyfoethog o atgofion gweledol a chysylltiadau personol i dynnu arnynt wrth i mi ail-greu'r lleoedd yr wyf yn hiraethu amdanynt. Mae lliw a phatrwm yn elfennau allweddol yn fy mhaentiadau sy'n fy ngoleuo, ac rydw i hapusaf pan fyddant yn cyfuno i greu hwyliau ac emosiynau pwerus. Wrth i mi weithio rwy'n cael fy arwain gan fy ngreddf ac mae'r paentiadau cyfoes sy'n deillio o hynny yn eistedd rhywle rhwng realaeth a dehongliad llawn dychymyg.”

Ynghylch fy mhroses:

Wrth wraidd fy ymarfer celf mae fy chwilfrydedd parhaus a synnwyr o ryfeddod am y ffordd y mae ein byd yn edrych.

Oherwydd hyn rydw i wedi ei gwneud hi'n arferiad i mi stopio'r cloc yn rheolaidd a chymryd digon o amser i edrych ar ein byd - i edrych arno o ddifrif. Mae'n golygu chwilio am bethau cynnil anganfyddadwy hefyd. Mae'n gofyn i mi fod yn llonydd ac yn dawel, i anadlu'n ysgafn, hyd yn oed yn cau fy llygaid. Yna byddaf yn profi gwres pêr awel haf ar draws fy nghroen, clywed sïon ysgafn storm fellt a tharanau yn agosáu. Dwi'n dechrau teimlo cysylltiadau emosiynol i'r lle a hiraeth.

Mae fy mheintiadau yn darlunio synnwyr diriaethol ac anniriaethol lle trwy gymysgedd o siapiau a lliwiau haniaethol a manylion realistig cywrain.

Dechreuaf fy mhaentiadau trwy weithio’n reddfol gydag ardaloedd eang o liw sy’n ymwneud â fy synnwyr o le. Dros nifer o sesiynau caiff mwy a mwy o haenau eu cymhwyso gyda siapiau, patrymau a gweadau cynyddol gymhleth. Pan fyddaf yn dechrau mynd yn ôl i lawr drwy'r haenau hyn, mae darnau o ddelweddaeth gudd yn datgelu eu hunain sy'n cynnig cyfarwyddiadau newydd a chyffrous i mi fynd â'r gwaith.

Mae’r broses hon yn aml yn cymryd wythnosau ac eto mae’r elfen o hap a damwain sydd ynghlwm wrth bob paentiad yn wefreiddiol i mi ac yn gwneud pob taith yn bleser. Mae hefyd yn golygu bod pob paentiad gorffenedig yn ddarn unigryw gyda hanes cyfoethog ei hun yn dal i fod yn guddiedig oddi tano - efallai yn aros i gael ei ryddhau un diwrnod.

My art is particularly inspired by the atmospheric landscapes of the UK. My life is spent mainly between the mountains of the Lake District and the beaches of the Llyn where it's a joy to absorb the essence and beauty of nature. I have gathered a rich source of visual memories and personal connections to draw upon as I recreate the places I have nostalgia for. Colour and pattern are key elements in my paintings that light me up, and I'm at my happiest when they combine to create powerful moods and emotions. As I work I'm guided by my intuition and the resulting contemporary paintings sit somewhere between realism and imaginative interpretation.

About my process: 

At the heart of my art practice is my insatiable curiosity and sense of wonder about the way our world looks.

Because of this I’ve made it my practice to regularly stop the clock and take enough time to look at our world– to really look at it.  It means searching for the subtle imperceptible things as well. It requires me to be still and quiet, to breathe gently, even close my eyes. Then I experience the balmy heat of a summer breeze across my skin, hear the feint rumble of an approaching thunderstorm. I start to feel emotional connections to the place and nostalgia.

My paintings depict both the tangible and intangible sense of a place through a mixture of abstract shapes and colours and intricate realistic details.

I begin my paintings by working intuitively with broad areas of colour that relate to my sense of a place. Over numerous sessions more and more layers are applied with increasingly complex shapes, patterns and textures.  When I start to sand back down through these layers, fragments of hidden imagery reveal themselves which offer new and exciting directions for me to take the work.

This process often takes weeks and yet the element of chance involved in each painting is thrilling to me and makes each journey a joy. It also means that every finished painting is a unique piece with a rich history of its own still concealed beneath- perhaps waiting to be released one day.
