Collection: Rhodri Evans

Mae Rhodri Evans yn arlunydd cwbl hunanddysgedig sydd wedi braslunio a phaentio ers ei blentyndod yng nghymoedd diwydiannol Cymru. Tirwedd yw ei destun bob amser ac mae wedi’i ysbrydoli’n arbennig gan dirweddau gwyllt a garw Eryri, Ucheldiroedd yr Alban a’i gartref presennol yn Ynysoedd Heledd. Wedi’i fagu ar aelwyd Gymraeg ei iaith, mae Rhodri yn siaradwr Cymraeg rhugl, a astudiodd Llenyddiaeth Gymraeg a Saesneg yng Ngholeg Harlech a Phrifysgol Cymru, Aberystwyth, cyn mynd ymlaen i wneud diploma ôl-raddedig mewn Rheolaeth Cadwraeth ym Mangor.

Yn dilyn gyrfa ddeng mlynedd ar hugain ym maes rheoli gwarchodfeydd natur gan weithio yn Eryri, Ceredigion a’r Alban (gan gynnwys Ynys Enlli ar Benrhyn Llŷn ac ynys anghysbell St Kilda) penderfynodd bymtheg mlynedd yn ôl gysegru gweddill ei oes i’w gelfyddyd. "Pan dwi'n peintio does gen i ddim diddordeb mewn cynrychiolaeth 'ffotograffig' o'r dirwedd. Yn hytrach dwi'n ceisio mynegi'r dirwedd rydw i'n edrych arno trwy lens fy nychymyg a'm hemosiynau fy hun, felly mae fy mheintiadau'n troedio llinell dyner rhwng realiti. a thynnu." Mae ei waith wedi ei werthu mewn llawer o wledydd, gan gynnwys UDA, Japan, yr Almaen, Ffrainc, yr Iseldiroedd, a Sbaen.

Rhodri Evans is an entirely self-taught artist who has sketched and painted since his childhood in the Welsh industrial valleys.  His subject is always landscape and he is particularly inspired by the wild and rugged landscapes of Snowdonia, the Highlands of Scotland and his current home in the Outer Hebrides.  Raised to a Welsh speaking family, Rhodri is a fluent Welsh speaker, who studied Welsh and English Literature at Coleg Harlech and the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, before going on to do a postgraduate diploma in Conservation Management at Bangor.

Following a thirty year career in nature reserve management working in Snowdonia, Ceredigion and Scotland (including Ynys Enlli on the Llŷn peninsula and the remote island of St Kilda)  he decided fifteen years ago to dedicate the rest of his life to his art.  "When I paint I'm not interested in a 'photographic' representation of the landscape.  Instead I try to express the landscape I'm looking at through the lens of my own imagination and emotions, so my paintings tread a delicate line between reality and abstraction."  His work has sold in many countries, including the USA, Japan, Germany, France, Holland, and Spain.
