Collection: Anna Falcini

Ers 2014, mae Anna Falcini wedi ymchwilio’n helaeth i waith yr artist Gymreig, y ddiweddar, Gwen John (1876–1939), gan arwain at ddeialog hynod ddiddorol drwy’r archif am brofiad artistig menywod.

Yn 2023, comisiynwyd Anna fel rhan o Dymor Cymru yn Ffrainc gan y British Council i ddatblygu gwaith am fywyd John ym Mharis, gan arwain at waith newydd mawr, ‘Methods to Speak’, a berfformiwyd yn y Musée Rodin, Meudon.

Yn ailddychmygu Gwen John: meinwe feddal, mae Anna yn tynnu ar y bydoedd mewnol a oedd yn rhan o fywyd Gwen John ym Mharis, gan archwilio sut y byddai’r rhyngwyneb rhwng ei bywyd artistig a’i bywyd personol yn aml yn plethu â’r dwyster emosiynol a brofodd.

Daw ysgogiadau ar gyfer safbwyntiau newydd ar yr agwedd hon ar fywyd John i’r amlwg drwy fateroldeb sylweddau bregus megis porslen a ffabrig, natur wamal ac addurniadol bwa gwallt vermilion, neu’r gweithredoedd o ofalu am y corff benywaidd drwy frwsio gwallt, a wireddir drwy gerflunwaith, perfformiad, gosodwaith a lluniadau dyfrlliw.

Since 2014, Anna Falcini has extensively researched the late Welsh artist, Gwen John (1876-1939) resulting in a fascinating dialogue through the archive about the female artistic experience.

In 2023 Anna was commissioned as part of the Wales in France Season by the British Council to develop work about John’s life in Paris, leading to a major new work ‘Methods to Speak’ that was performed at the Musée Rodin, Meudon.

In reimagining Gwen John: soft tissue Anna draws upon the inner worlds that occupied the late Welsh artist’s life in Paris, examining how the interface of her artistic and personal life often became entangled with the emotional intensities that John experienced.

Provocations for new perspectives on this aspect of John’s life emerge through the materiality of fragile substances such as porcelain and fabric, the frivolous and decorative nature of a vermillion hairbow, or the actions of attending to the female body through the brushing of hair, realised through sculpture, performance, installation and watercolour drawings.
