Collection: Penny Hallas

Ganwyd Penny Hallas ym 1960 yn Leeds, Lloegr, ac mae’n byw ac yn gweithio ym Mhowys, canolbarth Cymru. Gosododd ei hastudiaethau mewn Celf Weledol / Hanes Celf ym Mhrifysgol Cymru Aberystwyth (1982) sylfeini ei diddordeb mewn fframweithiau cymdeithasol-ddiwylliannol, tra bod hyfforddiant pellach yn Diploma Therapi Celf Birmingham (cyfwerth â MA) wedi llywio’r cyfatebiaethau yn ei gwaith rhwng y byd materol a chyflyrau seicolegol bodolaeth.

Hyd at 2020 bu’n cyfuno gyrfa fel artist â gwaith fel seicotherapydd celf yn y GIG, ac mae’n parhau’n ymrwymedig i arferion cynhwysol ac ymgysylltiad cymunedol. Gyda phrofiad sylweddol fel arweinydd gweithdai, darlithydd gwadd a chyflwynydd mewn cynadleddau/symposia, mae ei gweithiau celf a’i hysgrifennu wedi ymddangos mewn cyhoeddiadau rhyngwladol.

Mae wedi arddangos yn eang ledled Cymru ac yn rhyngwladol, ac mae arddangosfeydd unigol diweddar – Myriorama, Canolfan y Celfyddydau Aberystwyth (2024) a Sighting, Oriel Elysium Abertawe (2026) – wedi rhoi ffocws pwysig i’w hymchwil artistig i safbwyntiau lluosog ar amgylcheddau bregus. Mae preswylfeydd fel gyda phrosiect Our Picturesque Landscape, Llangollen (2022), Hafod Art Studio, Eryri (2024) a Rogue Artists Studios, Manceinion (2024) wedi bod yn allweddol i ehangu ei methodolegau a’i hymarfer.

Mae’n aelod o Ghost Jam (Prosiect Glasfryn), Sgôr Performance Collective a chanolfan ymchwil artistiaid Space Place Practice.

//

Born 1960, Leeds, England, Penny Hallas lives and work in Powys, mid-Wales. Her studies in Visual Art/Art History at University Wales Aberystwyth (1982) laid the foundations of her interest in socio-cultural frameworks whilst further training at Birmingham’s Diploma Art Therapy (M.A. equivalent) informed the correspondence in her work between the material world and psychological states of being.

Until 2020 she combined a career as an artist with work as an NHS art psychotherapist, and remains committed to inclusive practices and community engagement. With considerable experience as workshop lead, visiting lecturer and of presenting at conferences / symposia, her artworks and writing have appeared in international publications.

Widely exhibited across Wales and internationally, recent solo shows - Myriorama, Aberystwyth Arts Centre (2024) and Sighting, Elysium Gallery Swansea (2026) - have given an important focus to her artistic research into multiple perspectives on fragile environments. Residencies such as with Our Picturesque Landscape project, Llangollen (2022) Hafod Art Studio, Eryri (2024) and Rogue Artists Studios, Manchester (2024) have been key to extending her methodologies and practice.

She is a member of Ghost Jam (Glasfryn Project), Sgôr Performance Collective and Space Place Practice artist research hub.
