Collection: Sian McGill
Ganed Sian McGill ar ddydd Gwyl Dewi 1973 ym Mhontypŵl, de Cymru. Wedi iddi gael gradd yn y Saesneg o Brifysgol Abertawe, dychwelodd at yr hoffter o gelfyddyd a ddatblygodd gyntaf yn ystod ei phlentyndod, ‘roedd hefyd yn magu ei phlant yn ystod y cyfnod yma. Daeth paentio yn alwedigaeth llawn amser iddi ac mae bellach yn arddangos ei gwaith yn rheolaidd mewn orielau yng Nghymru a Chernyw, mae ei gwaith wedi ei ddewis ar gyfer Academi Frenhinol y Cambrian.
Daw ei hysbrydoliaeth yn uniongyrchol o’r mannau mae hi’n hoff o fod ynddynt, allan yn yr awyr agored yn mwynhau arfordir a mynyddoedd Cymru, Mae’r paentiadau yn ymateb uniongyrchol i’r tirlun, gan ddal profiad, egni ac ymdeimlad lle – sut mae’n teimlo i fod yno ar y diwrnod arbennig hwnnw. Yn baentiwr mynegianol a greddfol, mae’n gweithio ran amlaf gyda chyllell paled ond hefyd mae’n defnyddio brwshys, ei bysedd neu beth bynnag arall sydd i law ar gyfer creu’r effaith mae’n ei ddymuno. Mae’n hoff o arbrofi gyda marciau, lliw a gwead er mwyn creu effeithiau amrywiol – mae hyn yn arwain at greu peintiadau anrhagweladwy, rhai sy’n ymddangos ohonynt eu hunain bron.
Sian McGill was born on St Davids Day 1973 in Pontypool, South Wales. After gaining a degree in English at Swansea University , she returned to a childhood love of art, pursuing this alongside bringing up her young family. Painting soon became a passion and went on to become a full time occupation. She now regularly exhibits at galleries in Wales and Cornwall, and has also had work selected for the Royal Cambrian Academy.
Much of her inspiration comes directly from the places where she loves to be, outdoors, enjoying the coastline and mountains of Wales. The paintings are a personal response to the landscape, endeavouring to capture something of the experience, the energy, the ambiance of a place - how it feels to be there on that day. An expressive and intuitive painter, she works mostly with a palette knife but also paints with brushes, uses her fingers or whatever else comes to hand to get the desired effect. She enjoys experimenting with mark-making, colour and texture to create a variety of effects - this often leads to a degree of unpredictability, allowing the paintings to emerge almost by themselves.
