Trwy weithio gyda porslen mae Ruth Gibson yn cyfuno cariad a ffotogaffiaeth, gwneud printiadau a serameg er mwyn creu ymdeimlad o le; ac ar gyfer yr arddangosfa yma mae ei gwaith wedi ei ysbrydoli gan dirlun Llŷn.

Mae’r delweddau yn cynnwys coed yn y gaeaf, gweadau natur, adar yn hedfan, creigiau odan yr wyneb a chynhwysiad rhannau o fapiau er mwyn gwreiddio y gwaith yn y man sydd wedi ei ysbrydoli. Mae meini hirion hynafol sydd wedi eu darganfod yn wasgaredig ar hyd y tirlun gwyllt yn cael eu hadleisio yn siapiau y gwaith serameg. Mae amlinell y penrhyn o bellteryn thema sydd i’w weld trwy’r gwaith. Mae delwedd yr amlinell a siapiau’r bryniau a phatrymau eu cyfuchlinau ar fapiau yn cael eu cynnwys yn ei gwaith dro ar ôl tro.

Trwy ddefnyddio ffotograffiaeth a thechnegau argraffu serameg yn galluogi I ffoto-realiaeth gael ei gyfuno gyda marciau mwy haniaethol er mwyn creu haenau o ddelweddau. Cyn gynted ag y mae’r clai wedi ei sgrîn- brintio, gall y clai gae ei ymestyn dros y mowldiau, gall y print gael ei ystumio, neu rannau bachgael eu hychwanegu neu eu tynnu ymaith er mwyn creu patrymau haniaethol. Mae ychwanegu gwydredd a chlai lleol yn ychwanegu at y gwaith.

Working in porcelain, Ruth Gibson combines a love of photography, printmaking and ceramics, to evoke a sense of place; and in this exhibition the work is inspired by the landscape of the Llŷn Peninsula.

Imagery includes winter trees, textures in nature, birds in flight, the rocks beneath the surface, and the inclusion of sections on map, rooting the work to the place it is inspired by. Ancient standing stones found scattered across this wild landscape are echoed in the shapes of the ceramic pieces. A fascination with the silhouette of the peninsula seen from afar is a theme that runs through this work. The repeated image of the outline, as well as shapes of the hills and the patterns of their contour lines found on maps, are incorporated into her designs.

Utilising photography and ceramic printing techniques allows for photo realism to be combined with more abstract mark making to build up layers of images. Once screen-printed the clay can be stretched over moulds, the print can be distorted, or small sections can be added or removed to create abstract patterns. The work is enhanced by the addition of glazes and local clays used in a painterly style.
