Collection: Paul Islip

Mae gyrfa Paul Islip wedi ei wreiddio yn ddwfn ym myd dylunio a gwneud dodrefn. Astudiodd Paul ddylunio dodrefn hyd at lefel gradd Meistr cyn sefydlu ei weithdy cyntaf er mwyn creu darnau unigol mewn pren a metel.

Fodd bynnag, flwyddyn yn ddiweddarach, gofynnwyd iddo ymuno â gwneuthurwr dodrefn lleol fel dylunydd cynnyrch ar gyfer gwelyau, soffas a setiau bwyta, a derbyniodd y cynnig hwn.

Yn ogystal â dylunio’r dodrefn, gwnaeth Paul y prototeipiau cyntaf yn gorfforol, creu’r manylebau a’r templedi, ac yna hyfforddi gweithwyr y ffatri ar sut i gynhyrchu’r cynhyrchion newydd. Profodd hyn yn sail ragorol i ddeall y broses o greu dyluniad hyd at ei weithgynhyrchu.

O ganlyniad derbyniodd gyfleoedd pellach i weithio i fusnesau mwy, gan ddylunio a gweithgynhyrchu clustogwaith ar gyfer enwau adnabyddus ar y stryd fawr megis Marks and Spencer, John Lewis a Next.

Fodd bynnag, uchelgais sylfaenol Paul oedd dychwelyd at ddylunio crefftus, unigryw, ac yn 2020 daeth y cyfle i sefydlu gweithdy yn ardal hardd gogledd Cymru, sydd â chyflenwad helaeth o ddeunyddiau crai cynaliadwy a naturiol.

Ers hynny, mae Paul wedi datblygu ei ystod o ddodrefn a goleuadau, a gellir eu gweld mewn nifer o orielau ac arddangosfeydd ledled y DU.

Paul Islip`s career has always been immersed in the world of Furniture Design and making. Initially, Paul studied furniture Design to Master’s Degree level before leaving to set up his first workshop to create individual pieces in wood and metal.

However, a year later, he was asked to join a local furniture manufacturer as a product designer of beds, sofas and dining ranges which he accepted.

In addition to designing the furniture, Paul physically made the first prototypes, created the specifications and templates then trained the factory how to make the new products. This proved to be an excellent grounding in the process of design creation through to manufacture.

This led to further opportunities to work for larger scale businesses designing and manufacturing upholstery and cabinet product ranges for high street names such as Marks and Spencer, John Lewis and Next.

However, Paul`s underlying driving ambition was always to return to bespoke, artisan design and in 2020 the opportunity came to set up a workshop in beautiful North Wales with an abundant supply of sustainable and natural raw materials.

Since then, Paul has developed his range of furniture and lighting which can be seen in a number of UK galleries and exhibitions.
