Ar hyn o bryd rwy'n fyfyriwr Gradd Sylfaen blwyddyn olaf, Celf a Dylunio yng Ngholeg Menai, Bangor, a darlunio yw fy arbenigedd. Dyma fu fy niddordeb ers yr ysgol ac roeddwn yn ffodus i ymweld â Pharis wrth astudio ar y Cwrs Sylfaen yn 2023. Fel plentyn, roeddwn wedi fy swyno gan arddull benodol o animeiddio Ffrengig sy'n gysylltiedig â ffilmiau fel yr Aristocrats a One Hundred and One Dalmatians. Mae'r arddull yn deillio o gyfnod Nouveau Ffrainc a thra roeddwn ym Mharis, roeddwn yn gallu gweld dylanwad anhygoel yr arddull benodol hon ar y ddinas ei hun. Y motiff mwyaf adnabyddus o Baris sy'n gysylltiedig â'r mudiad hwn yw'r dyluniadau ar gyfer Gorsafoedd y Metro. Tra roeddwn yno, gwnes luniadau o'r mynedfeydd isffordd eiconig hyn a golygfeydd eraill o Baris a ddatblygais wedyn i fod yn waith arddangos ar gyfer y cwrs. Ar gyfer fy astudiaethau FdA, dechreuais chwilio am y cliwiau dylunio sy'n cynrychioli fy ninas fy hun, Bangor. Ar ôl ychydig, dechreuais sylweddoli bod y gwir ddiddordeb yn benodol iawn ac mai Penrhos lle cefais fy magu ac rwy'n dal i fyw a ddaeth yn destun fy archwiliad. Rwyf bellach yn darlunio mannau cyfarwydd a chyffredin fy mhlentyndod, corneli strydoedd, a dodrefn trefol fel pyst lampau, gwifrau telegraff, adeiladau ac arwyddion trefol yr wyf yn eu trosglwyddo trwy ysgythru i brint a chynllun tudalen. Yr hyn rwyf wedi'i ddeall o'r gwaith hwn yw bod yr atgof o'r ffilmiau a wyliais fel plentyn wedi tanio fy nychymyg i feddwl am egsotigrwydd Paris a chefndir hardd y ddinas ei hun, fel lle roeddwn i eisiau bod, ond bod y teimlad nawr, am yr hiraeth am fy mhlentyndod fy hun, yn fy nhynnu i'r lleoedd lle'r oeddwn i mewn gwirionedd.

I am currently a final year Foundation Degree, Art & Design student at Coleg Menai, Bangor, and my specialist practice is illustration. This has been my interest since school and I was fortunate to visit Paris whilst studying on the Foundation Course in 2023. As a child, I was fascinated by a particular style of French animation associated with films such as the Aristocrats and One Hundred and One Dalmatians. The style emerges from the French Nouveau period and whilst I was in Paris, I was able to see the incredible influence of this specific style on  the city itself. The most well-known motif of Paris that ties to this movement are the designs for the Metro Stations. Whilst there, I made drawings of these iconic subway entrances and other views of Paris which I then developed  to be my show work for the course. For my FdA studies, I started to look for the design cues that represent my own city of Bangor. After a while, I began to realise that the true interest was very specific and that it was Penrhos where I grew up and still live that became the subject of my scrutiny. I now draw the familiar and mundane spaces of my childhood, street corners, and urban furnishings such as lamp posts, telegraph wires, buildings and municipal signage which I transfer through etching to print and page layout. What I have understood from this work is that the memory of the films that I watched as a child fuelled my imagination to think of the exoticism of Paris and the beautiful backdrop of the city itself, as a place where I wanted to be, but that the feeling now, for the nostalgia for my own childhood draws me to the places where I actually was.
