Cast Glass / Gwydr Cast

15x2x4cm

Mae’r Poteli Cnau Traeth yn dod â dwy o elfennau hudolus y lle hardd hwn ynghyd: y goedwig a’r arfordir. Casglwyd y cnau ffawydd ar gyfer y stopwyr o’r goeden ffawydd a gwympodd, a defnyddiais y dull burn-out o gastio gwydr, gan greu mowld o’r ffurf wreiddiol. Yna caiff y deunydd organig ei losgi i ffwrdd, gan adael gwagle lle caiff gwydr tawdd ei gastio, gan gadw manylion cain y ffurf naturiol.

Mae siâp y poteli wedi’i gymryd o hen botel wydr o’r cyfnod Fictoraidd, gan gyfeirio at hanes Oriel Plas Glyn y Weddw a datblygiad ei gerddi. Creais fowld silicon o’r botel hon, cynhyrchu model cwyr, ac yna creu’r mowld castio terfynol.

Mae lliwiau a gweadau’r gwydr yn y poteli yn cyfeirio at yr arfordir a’r môr – haenau o ddŵr, tonnau, cymylau a’r awyr. Mae llinellau tenau o ddalen arian yn ychwanegu sglein adlewyrchol, gan awgrymu golau haul ar y dŵr neu ar y cymylau.

Beach Nut Bottles bring together the two magical elements in this beautiful place: the woodland and the coastline. The beech nuts for the stoppers were collected from the fallen beech tree, I used the burn-out method of glass casting, creating a mould from the original. The organic matter is then burned away, leaving a void into which molten glass is cast, preserving the delicate detail of the natural form.

The bottle shapes are taken from an old Victorian glass bottle, referencing the history of Oriel Plas Glyn y Weddw and the development of its gardens. I made a silicone mould from this bottle, produced a replica wax model, and then created the final casting mould.

The colours and textures of the glass in the bottles reference the coastline and the sea—the layers of water, waves, clouds, and sky. Fine silver-leaf lines add a reflective glimmer, evoking sunlight on the water or clouds.
