Pan dderbyniais y darn o bren ffawydd gyntaf, ni allwn beidio a meddwl am y goeden y daeth ohoni — gan fyfyrio ar ei hoes hir, a’r holl greaduriaid yr oedd wedi’u meithrin drwy gydol ei bywyd. Wedi’i hanrhydeddu fel Brenhines y Goedwig, mae’r ffawydden yn gonglfaen amrywiaeth rhyfeddol, yn gynefin hanfodol i ystod eang o rywogaethau, o adar a mamaliaid i infertebratau, cen, mwsoglau a ffyngau. Felly, roedd yn ymddangos yn gwbl briodol trawsnewid rhywfaint o’i bren hardd yn focs chwilod, i ddathlu’r cysylltiadau dwfn rhwng y goeden a’r llu o ffurfiau fflora a ffawna y mae wedi’u cynnal, tra’n cadw ei hetifeddiaeth ar gyfer cenedlaethau’r dyfodol.
When I first received the piece of beech wood, I couldn't help but think of the tree it had come from - reflecting on its long life, and all of the creatures it had nurtured throughout its living years. Revered as the Queen of the Forest, the beech tree is a cornerstone of wonderful diversity, a vital habitat to a vast range of species, from birds and mammals to invertebrates, lichens, mosses, and fungi. So, it seemed only fitting to transform some of its beautiful timber into a beetle box, to celebrate the deep connections between the tree and the myriad forms of flora and fauna it has sustained, while preserving its legacy for future generations.
