“Astudiais Hanes Celf yn y Courtauld Institute ac yn ddiweddarach dechreuais baentio wedi treulio amser yn adfer paentiadau y Meistri Iseldiraidd ac yn gweithio mewn ffilm. ‘Rwy’n byw mewn tŷ ger y môr yng Ngogledd Cymru ac mae fy mhaentiadau yn ymateb o’r enaid i fod wedi fy amsuddo i’r amgylchedd yma.

“Mae’r awyr, môr a’r tir sydd yn newid yn barhaus yn ffynhonnell ar gyfer fy ysbrydoliaeth a defnyddiaf hwy fel Sylfaen er mwyn creu golygfa ar gyfer tirlun dychmygol sydd yn dal awyrgylch. Gweithiaf yn bennaf mewn olew gan fod y cyfrwng yma yn rhoi y digleirdeb gorau ac mae golau yn holl bwysig pan yn creu golygfa. Pan nad wyf yn paentio golygfeydd, mae’r gwagle a’r modd y mae’n cael ei lenwi yn mynd a’m holl sylw yn ogystal a’r gwrthrych a cheisiaf adael pethau mor agored a phosibl er mwyn i’r sawl sy’n edrych arnynt ei ddehongli fel y dymunant.”

“I studied History of Art at the Courtauld institute and later went on to paint after spending some time restoring Dutch Old Master paintings and working in film. I live in a house on the top of a hill by the sea in North Wales and my paintings are a visceral response to being immersed in this environment.

“The ever-changing sky, sea, land are the source of my inspiration and I use them as a basis to set a scene for an imaginary landscape that best captures the atmosphere. I work exclusively in oils as it affords the best luminosity and light is of paramount importance in setting the scene. When not painting landscapes, it’s the space and sense of how it is occupied that obsesses me as much as the subject as I try to leave things as open as possible for the viewer to make their own interpretations.”
