With a fluid, experimental practice, Jo has drawn upon experience in art, green woodwork, woodland ecology and poetry to explore processes that engage the diversity of materials that the Coed Coexist storm-fallen beech tree has offered. \u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eRoots, bark, branch wood, cleft timber, axed wood fragments, shavings and sawdust have all played a role in creating a body of work with depth and consideration.  \u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eFunctional objects such as chairs, stools and spoons sit alongside explorative sculptural forms, prints, and a collection of poetic observations in the form of haikus. The haikus, inspired by elements of the beech, are paired with photographs in Boc - Coed Coexist, a book collaboration with photographer John Draper. “Boc” is the Anglo-Saxon word for beech, and from this comes the word “book”. \u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eWithin Jo’s work is a central collaborative piece: a celebratory bark curtain, made with three local artists: Maggie Evans, Emily Kyle Morison, and Lynne Stuart. \u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e\"The joy and experience of working together on the bark curtain has been a fuel for our collective creativity and expansion of practice.
