Initially, Paul studied furniture Design to Master’s Degree level before leaving to set up his first workshop to create individual pieces in wood and metal.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\"\u003eHowever, a year later, he was asked to join a local furniture manufacturer as a product designer of beds, sofas and dining ranges which he accepted.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\"\u003eIn addition to designing the furniture, Paul physically made the first prototypes, created the specifications and templates then trained the factory how to make the new products. I wanted to create a piece of furniture that celebrates the majestic beauty of the fallen Plas Glyn-y-Weddw tree and highlight the importance of beech wood to craft makers throughout the centuries.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eThe story of the `Fagus Bench` (Celtic God of beech trees) starts with the seat plank that has been left in its raw form to retain the natural grain characteristics of the tree itself. The arms have then been crafted using both traditional and modern techniques that have been employed over time by generations of furniture makers. One arm is constructed using sections of beech that are steam bent into flowing, branch like forms that have been finished on a shave horse with a draw\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eknife.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eIn contrast, the second arm uses modern machines and finishing techniques to create a clean, geometric representation of the beech tree leaf.
